A Kettle With a Pleasant Whistle
”Subverting the anxiety-inducing noise produced by typical kettles, Sapper’s 1983 design includes a brass whistle that emanates a harmonic pitch.” – Dwell
The 9091 was designer Richard Sapper’s first kettle. The central element in the design is the sturdy brass whistle which, when the steam exits, produces a short and pleasant melody. Richard Sapper wanted to avoid the usual anxiety-generating noise produced by other kettles, and by following this exquisitely poetic philosophy he produced what is probably the first multisensory object for the kitchen.
